Situational Therapy for Depression

Covid-19 Statement

I have switched my practice to a fully online format. I use a secure encrypted peer to peer video conferencing service to ensure your confidentiality [not Zoom]. I have been doing teletherapy for the past five years, and know what it takes to establish good therapeutic rapport. You can also check out my youtube channel for more updates as well as an example of how therapy will look and sound.

What is Depression

The classic symptoms of depression are:

  • Trouble concentrating, remembering details, and making decisions
  • Fatigue
  • Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, and helplessness
  • Pessimism and hopelessness
  • Insomnia, early-morning wakefulness, or sleeping too much
  • Irritability
  • Restlessness
  • Loss of interest in things once pleasurable, including sex
  • Overeating, or appetite loss
  • Aches, pains, headaches, or cramps that won't go away
  • Digestive problems that don't get better, even with treatment
  • Persistent sad, anxious, or "empty" feelings
  • Suicidal thoughts or attempts

What is the treatment?

Conventional wisdom treats depression disorders with a combination of medicine as well as cognitive-behavioral therapy. While I have referrals for medication management, medication management is like taking Tylenol for a fever. It isn't going to make you happy. Conventional therapy is focused on helping you resolve past traumas and understanding "why" it is you do the things you do. Situational Therapy is focused on identifying precisely the type of situations that cause you to experience depression and provide you with specific tools to adjust and react differently to those situations.

Rates and Insurance

I offer financial scholarships where I will subsidize up to 70% of the cost of therapy for those in financially difficult situations. To qualify you must attend an initial consultation and verbally request a scholarship  My hourly rate is $150 per hour. I do not submit claims on your behalf, but I will take care of the paperwork for you to submit your own insurance claims.
