I Made This Video for r/Seattle Subreddit!
Covid-19 is making as all have to adjust.
Hi, my name is Derrick Javan Hoard and I am a licensed marriage and family therapist. Just because the world stops, doesn't mean that your mental health should suffer. When I created my practice, I started as a teletherapy only provider. Because of this, I can provide high speed, synchronous, and high-definition therapy to clients remotely. I also like going on reddit and helping people randomly.
We are adjusting to a new situation.
There is a category of mental health concerns called adjustment disorders. The criteria for adjustment disorders are met when someone experiences symptoms of severe mental illness due to difficulties adjusting to an extreme life situation. Situations including, but not limited to: the sudden death of a family member, losing a job, or ya know everything in the world being cancelled and being forced to stay at home. Yeah, that might do it. The prognosis for adjustment disorders is generally good, but the best measures are preventative. Adjustment disorders become major mental illnesses through mismanagement of adjustment periods.
IE: Waking and baking may be fun now, but will it be fun when things get back to normal?
During this time, it pays to have a therapist that you can trust to talk through your issues and concerns with. Whether you are going "stir-crazy" from sitting home all day, dealing with difficulties because of lack of childcare, or are overwhelmed with anxiety and having difficulty coping, please reach out to me if you find yourself having trouble adjusting to changes in your life due to COVID-19. I offer a free 30-minute video consultation to help you get started.
My hourly rate is $150 per hour. If this would cause you significant financial difficulty, please let me know during our initial consultation and I am more than willing to work with you. I do not accept insurance, but I will show you how to get your payments reimbursed.
