Do you find yourself easily distracted and struggling to focus on tasks? Do you have a hard time completing assignments and meeting deadlines? Are you feeling like your ADHD is holding you back in your career and relationships? Are you tired of procrastinating on important work and then feeling the wave of guilt after you spend hours on tik tok, social media, or anything else other than what you are supposed to be doing? You're not alone. ADHD can make daily life a challenge and cause feelings of frustration, overwhelm, and self-doubt.
In my 7 years as a therapist, I have worked with many people who had an official or unofficial diagnosis of ADHD. They often came to me as a last resort after previous therapy left them with an understanding of their problems but no actual solutions. They knew why they behaved the way they did, but didn't know how to change it. Medication was of little help too. Although it provided the "boost" they needed to have the energy to get things done, it did not provide them with the motivation nor the direction that they needed. They were stuck in a limbo of insight with no action.
As a traditional ADHD therapist, my job was to provide guidance , support, and insight into my clients behaviors, but strictly forbidden from giving them direction. While some people were able to find their own way, many were left confused and frustrated. A calendar, notebook, and routine mean nothing with direction on how to use them. So I decided to do something different-ADHD Coaching. As an ADHD Coach, I began to offer my clients actual direction and to do so, I had to shift my thinking from the cause of their ADHD symptoms being chemical imbalances and traumas to the ways that they were doing the best they could to handle their problems.
And I begin to see rapid improvements.
Now, some solutions required helping my clients find a reason to continue doing what they were doing, some ended up switching careers, and some completely restructuring their entire lives. But, it wasn't difficult because not only did they have insight, they now had reasons to act on it.
When do you want to solve this for good? No more band-aids, no more sweeping it under the rug, no more running away. Just simply dealing with it head on and then living free of unnecessary anxiety for the rest of your life.
